Remember when I had this dilemma? I received some helpful tips on how to keep that sponge wand from leaking and other alternatives. Well the makers of so said wand, now make it without the little "button" that was the leaking problem. Sweet!! So, I've gone back to the wand for most dish scrubbing jobs, but I keep some sponges handy for other things as well.
This morning my sweet husband voluntarily loaded the dishwasher. Yes, voluntarily!! He mentioned that he was going to toss in the sponges as well. I wash them every once in a while to get rid of bacteria and such. So I, from the other room, just comment with a half-hearted, "OK."
Later in the morning we were getting Landon ready for a bath and he had to go "park" his dump truck in it's garage (which is in the hallway between the kitchen, dining room, laundry room, and Dad's office). As he trotted back into the bathroom he casually states, "There is soap on the hardwoods in the kitchen." and then hops in the tub. (Yes, his exact words!) I give him and Shannon a puzzled look and then go investigate. He was correct, there were suds all over the floor in front of the dishwasher. I slowly opened it up to see what was the matter, fearing what I might find. I so wish I had thought to take a picture at that moment.
I was so puzzled, why was the dishwasher behaving this way? Then, after checking to make sure the disposal wasn't clogged, checked the drain hose from the dishwasher to make sure it was not backing up, I had a revelation! Shannon put those sponges in the dishwasher. I can guarantee you that he didn't rinse them out before he put them in there. The afore mentioned dishwand, although better than its predecessor, still leaks soap a little bit. I rest it on a sponge, so that the soap drips onto the sponge and not the kitchen sink. Those two sponges were LOADED with dishwashing soap. And thus all the suds!!!!!
Here is a picture I took after I removed the sponges and ran a rinse only cycle to see if I could get rid of the suds.

Lesson learned! Those will be the cleanest dishes ever. I've run the rinse only cycle about 4 times this morning trying to get the dish soap out of the dishwasher!! I think we've about got it cleaned out.
