For the longest time I sat in the living room in the recliner with my laptop on my lap. I would spend hours in the evenings here watching TV and doing work on the computer. When I started doing more regular work on my photography I really needed a place to really work. So the dominoes fell and tomorrow they will get closer to completion. Although getting stuff for my photography business is never really done!! A few months ago I decided that I really needed a space to work. The best place I could think of was the corner of Shannon's and my bedroom. At the time there was a sofa and small table in the corner to make a small sitting area. A place, 5 years ago, I had hoped would have been a place I would relax and curl up with a good book. For several years after we moved here I did spend some time on that sofa curled up with a good book or even with my laptop. This is where I had most of my first feedings with Landon. This is where I would "set up shop" with the pump and small milk factory when Landon was small. I spent MANY hours on that sofa. But in the past few years the sofa had become just another place to stack things, mainly laundry! The table was almost always covered with items I couldn't think of any other place to put. A few months ago while trying to earn some money for my 3-Day walk we decided that the sofa and table could be sold and that little corner could re-purpose itself as my "office". The card table and a small end table became my office. I worked many, many nights at that card table. We have a perfectly good desk in Shannon's study which was my Mom's desk many years ago. The desk spent about 10 years in my Mom's bedroom, and has since been in our home(s). I would say this desk is about 20 years old. It is a nice desk, but it really is a bit feminine for Shannon's Man Study. So, this evening Shannon helped me move the desk out of his study and into my "office". I have a place all my own. One of the catalysts to get this ball rolling was the purchase of a new computer. I have been trying to get a new Mac for about 6 months now, but Shannon was not interested. The memory on my laptop has been shot for quite some time. I am constantly getting messages saying my disk is almost full. I've deleted all the applications I never use, and purchased a 1 TB external hard drive to store all my photography files. The thousands of pictures I've taken of Landon, and other things, like trips, vacations, etc. have been moved to other external hard drives. Still, my laptop was at it's breaking point. So last Sunday Shannon and I ordered me a new computer, not a Mac, but a Dell. (I mean Dell is Shannon's client after all.) My new computer should arrive sometime tomorrow. He did have a purpose for not wanting a Mac, but I still don't think it was a "good" purpose. But a new computer of any brand is still better than this old laptop.
Here are a few pictures of my old workspace and my "new" desk.
