Not very often do you get the chance to take photos like this and stay dry! I pulled my car over onto the side of the road in a neighborhood not far from my house. The neighborhood is mostly undeveloped so there are some open spaces. I positioned myself so that I could see the lightening strikes going on all around me - literally 360 degrees around me. I jumped out of the car and balanced my camera on the hood of my car - I didn't have my tripod with me. I took several shots from here until a coyote walked by me, about 20 yards away. I freaked out!! I jumped into my car and shot the remainder of the shots from the driver's side window! Again, no tripod so these are just as steady as I could hold the camera for the long exposure.
I left this one big, so you could see the strike. You can see it smaller below to see the whole frame.
