That's so "Little House on the Prairie"

After all our outdoor adventures on Sunday I assumed when Little Man woke up on Monday morning with a red neck and a red spot on his cheek that he just got a bit too much sun on Sunday (despite the fact I slathered him with sunscreen several times throughout the day) and was burned. I felt bad for the little guy; I knew he was hurting. At about 10:00 his school called and told me that he had a rash on his chest and back. I again assumed that it was just his burn that was beginning to affect his very sensitive skin. Just to be safe I made an afternoon appointment with the doctor; I'm glad I did...

"Isn't that from like Little House on the Prairie days?"

That is the thought that went through my head as I was taking Landon home from the doctor's office. I didn't say it out loud to the doctor, but I have said it a few times today to several people. And, they all agree....

What is it?

Landon has Scarlet Fever.

I thought this was some bad disease people died from on Little House on the Prairie, but it's not. Fortunately it's really not as bad as I had first thought. Not great, but he's not going to die or anything. Mainly, he just has a really bad red rash all over his body. He doesn't really have a fever, but I'm not convinced that the 104.8 fever he ran about 2 1/2 weeks ago wasn't the beginning of it all. Anyways, here is what Little Man looked like as he was getting ready for the bath tonight. This is after 24 hours on meds, and he looks quite a bit better now than he did yesterday afternoon.
