Oh no, politics....

Fair Tax

I've been doing research on some of the talkings going on during the elections. I'll be honest, most of it I don't really understand. I've always been naive to most things political. Since I know Mike Huckabee, and know what kind of a guy he really is, I find it easy to want to vote for him. He is an all around nice guy. Honest, True, hard working, and sincere. His whole family is - they are just good people.

I was looking into some of the things he is standing on for his campaign, because I really didn't know the meat of each issue. The one thing I didn't really understand was the Fair Tax. So, I've spent the last few days doing some research on the topic. I'll be honest, it looks like a good thing. I've personally been hit with some of the taxes that this tax plan is looking to get rid of. Not only the current, very unfair income tax, but several others.

The current tax code is so complicated - no one can really understand it. We just turn a blind eye when we get our pay check and FICA has taken our money. I think this Fair Tax is a good thing. What I like about it - to some extent you get to decide how much you give the government - to an extent. Now everyone has to buy goods to live - we just do and those things will be taxed like they are now with a sales tax, a bit larger, but not too bad. Plus, without the crazy taxes that manufacturers, employers, and every other person who helped make the item we need to buy, have to pay, the items we buy will be cheaper. The cost of just living will go down.

The companies who make these items will not be forced to go to other countries to make them(where they don't have to pay taxes for their employees), they will be able to stay in the US, pay American citizens an honest wage (that of which they will keep 100% of what they earn) to make the item and not be burdened with the taxes they have to pay on each employee. Therefore the item will cost less because the employer will not have as much overhead cost.

Now, on some items, if we can buy used we can save ourselves money. If we decide that we don't need the biggest, newest car, and we can buy a used car - no taxes. If we can live in a house that someone else lived in for a while - no taxes. You only pay the Fair Tax on an item one time. Once that item's tax has been paid, no one else has to pay taxes on it just because it changes hands.

Plus, the Fair Tax gives a prebate (like a rebate, but before the purchase not after) so that those who can not afford the tax get money up front to pay the taxes on items they need to survive.

One other thing I like about this tax is that EVERYONE pays. If you are an honest working man/woman/family bringing home a paycheck (100% of what you earned or working for yourself - the fair tax system also does away with the self-employment tax) you have to pay the tax on items you buy. But, if you are a not-so-honest person, possibly making all your cash, by doing something illegal (i.e. selling drugs, prostitution, stealing, etc.) you still have to pay the same amount of taxes as everyone else. Before the Fair Tax, people who were not getting a "paycheck" from a legit organization (either a company or self-employed) were not paying taxes. They were sure enjoying the fruitfulness of YOUR labor - using the education we provided for free - many of them collecting welfare because they can show that they don't have an income from a "real" job - They now have to pay their fair share for the things they buy. It just seems fair to me. The more you buy - the more you pay.

The state of Texas doesn't have a state income tax, and they survive - why can't the national government?

I have TONS of thoughts on this, but don't really want to bore you (any more than I already have). Read the information at the link provided - Fair Tax - and see for yourself. And even if you like the fair tax, but don't like The Huck, there are currently 6 people running for office (Republican and Democrat) that support the Fair Tax.

I've enjoyed researching more for the election and look forward to making an informed decision in March (primaries) and again in November. If I have any more revelations as I research - I'll pass them along, I'm sure you can't wait!! HA HA
