Keep it Clean!!

Someone asked me the other day how I keep my house so clean?  What?

Well, my house is hardly ever completely clean, but I do LIKE to keep it "picked up" as best I can.  The pendulum swings wide both ways on this task from day to day and week to week.  BUT...I do have a plan and I do LIKE to stick to it.  Some days, weeks, months, life happens and things fall behind.  And anyone who knows me knows my love-hate relationship with laundry. I have the hardest time keeping up with laundry!!

Many years ago, I'd say maybe 8 or 9, I started a card system.  I created index cards for tasks that needed to be done on certain days of the week and I set those cards out each day.  I kept them in a little index box on the kitchen counter.  When I completed a task I returned the card to the box.  The goal was to, obviously, complete all the cards assigned to that day.  It worked.  It even encouraged Shannon to glance at the cards and see if there was something he could do to help.  It worked.

Since then I've moved on to a checklist.  I have a lot of checklists for a lot of things.  I am so ADD that I can't keep things straight most of the time!!  I could write a whole post on my obsession with lists!! I like to check things off a list. I really have a slight obsession with marking things off lists.  I'll add things to a list that I've done, just so I can mark them off!!  I like looking back at the list and feeling a sense of accomplishment.

But the Daily Cleaning Plan is the one someone was asking about the other day when they saw it on my kitchen counter. I keep a dry-erase marker on the list and the list on the bar.  I try to get the AM done before nap time, and the PM done before bed!!  Not always 100%....actually hardly ever 100%, but it gives me something to aim for!!

Another "list" someone asked about the other day when they were at my house is the Weekly Schedule I keep on the fridge.  This one just helps keep me on schedule for the day and to make sure I'm getting it all in!!
