T-Ball It Is!!

Not that Landon didn't like soccer.  Not that he wasn't good.  It just isn't his thing.  At least not at this age.  Soccer when you're 4 and 5 years old is also known as "huddle ball."  A huddle of boys move up and down the field gathered around the ball.  Landon is not aggressive.  He is not going to fight his way into the mob just to kick a ball.  Now, he will try to talk the boys into spreading out and passing the ball, but 4 and 5 year olds don't care about that.

When T-Ball came around this spring, we decided to give it a shot.  We're a baseball family.  We really enjoy going to the Rough Riders games here in town.  We watch the Rangers when we can.  We just genuinely like baseball.  We thought it was worth a shot.

One of the best attributes that Landon possesses is his attention span.  I know he didn't get that from me!!!  Now the kid can get distracted and can forget what he is supposed to be doing, but for the most part he can focus for good length of time on something he's interested in.  That's a great skill when it comes to U5 baseball!!!  There is a lot of standing around.  There aren't too many kids at that age that can hit the ball past the pitcher's mound!!

Anyways, we've been in practice for a little over a month now, and last weekend was Landon's first ever T-Ball game.  Aunt Jerry and Uncle Woody (aka - GaGa and G-Daddy) came to watch.

I think he looks adoreable in those BAGGY baseball pants!  You can't even see his socks!

A little warm up before the game!
Coach starts us off with a pep-talk and an "Angels on 3" before the game.  I will say, we have 2 very good coaches.  They are really great with the boys.  Coach G has been coaching his older son's team for 5 years now, and his younger son is on our team this year.  We're looking forward to many more seasons with Coach G!!
Landon starts his first game at second base.  Mom couldn't be more proud!!  Second base was my main position all throughout my softball days.  If I wasn't at 2nd I was at shortstop.  I was a strong middle-infielder!!
Landon, always in "baseball ready" position.  He keeps his focus on the batter almost the whole time!!!
His first at bat.  He looks so grown-up.  What happened?
 A nice solid swing....
 Contact!
This little guy runs with determination.  I loved watching his facial expressions as he rounded the bases.
Safe at First!!

Waiting at Second.  Notice he's watching the batter.
Off to third, eyes on the coach.
 Waiting to run it home....
 Bringing it home!!
 Score!!
Way to go bud!!!  Mom and Dad are proud!!!
GaGa and G-Daddy are proud too!!!
Always "baseball ready"!!!
At bat #2.  Another nice swing!
Love that determination.
This picture is a bit out of focus, but I just couldn't pass up that facial expression.  He is focused on getting to first base!!
Around the bases again, for run number 2!!
Good Game! (He's #4)
Coach ends the game just like we started, a little motivational talk, the awarding of the game ball, and an Angels on 3!!

Landon is so much more into baseball than he ever was in soccer.  Looks like we have MANY more years of long baseball seasons ahead of us!
