For Valentine's Day (or the day before) Shannon and I went to Jasper's in Plano for a nice dinner and then to the movies. We took a long evening and enjoyed being together. Jasper's is owned by one of the Rathburn brothers, who beat Bobby Flay in an Iron Chef competition some time back. These brothers own about 6 restaurants here in the Dallas area, Austin, and in Atlanta. Jasper's is one of those places where your food looks like this:
These are not pictures of our food, these are from the Jasper's website. Since it is a nice place to eat, I was a bit leery of pulling out the camera during dinner. I did snap a few pictures of our dessert but didn't use the flash as not to ruin anyone else's meal!! I also took a picture of our wine bottle. We thought the label was quite entertaining...
Plus, we didn't want to cork it an bring it home because we would have had to carry it around with us all night and we want to look up the vineyard in my uncle Gil's new book - The Atlas of Wines. We started our meal off with Potato Chips - not fancy? Check them out! These are Maytag Blue Cheese Potato Chips. Served warm.
Shannon and I both had steak. I was going to go for something "frilly" but when it came down to decision time, I really wanted a GOOD steak. I tried to order one in Austin a few weeks ago, and it was BAD!!! I was really needing to correct my taste buds! Here are our dessert plates. Shannon had chocolate cake served with a malt! Not Fancy? ...
I had a Butterfinger Creme Brulle... SO YUM!!
We went for a walk (or tried to) before our movie - we had to head back to the restaurant after they called my cell phone because we Shannon forgot to leave the signed receipt!
We went for a walk (or tried to) before our movie - we had to head back to the restaurant after they called my cell phone because I offered to take a picture of a couple who was taking turns photographing each other, and then they offered to take our picture as well. No, I'm not drunk in this picture, I'm in the middle of a blink. And you think Shannon would have told me my hair was a mess!!!! Anyways, we got a picture.
After this we went to go grab a cup of coffee before our movie. We almost ended up at the Main Street Bread Company for the atmosphere, but decided on the Starbucks around the corner for the good coffee! The place was pretty busy, and not much seating. As Shannon was waiting for them to brew some decaf coffee (which they don't do in the evenings anymore until someone orders it - dumb) I asked an older couple if we could sit with them in some of the plush chairs in the corner. They had two empties, and we needed a place to sit. Plus, Shannon and I will talk to just about anyone. Especially Shannon. Well, the couple turned out to be very pleasant folks. They have lived in Texas for about 3 years and both are from New York City - the Bronx. We had a delightful conversation with them for about 30 minutes before we had to leave to catch our movie.
We went to the Angelika and saw Slumdog Millionaire. It was good. Predictable, but good. I needed good since the movie didn't start until 10:20. I needed something that was going to keep me awake.
All in all it was a nice evening.

The Butterfinger dessert looks great - it's enough to make both of us jones for a fix...
