Beer Bread

During the Super Bowl we went over to our friends Brianna and Doug's house to watch the game.  No party, just hanging out, watching TV on their amazing projecton screen in the media room.  The kids played well together (as they always do).  Low key. No pressure. We loved it.

Brianna made some great chili (which I need to get the recipe for), and this beer bread. Wasn't too sure at first, because, well, I don't like beer.  But oh....my....goodness....this stuff was SOOOO good.  I wanted to come home and make it right away, but didn't.

Landon and I have been stranded in this house for way too long (He's been sick) and I was getting a bit stir crazy (A LOT stir crazy).  Shannon was home for the weekend so I thought I'd make us a loaf of bread.

We didn't have enough flour.

I don't bake, much......

Ever.....

So, today was the first day that Landon felt up to getting out of the house and we had the day off for President's Day, so we ventured out.  We went to the store to pick up some things for the week, and I got a small bag of flour.

When I came home the first thing I did (after putting away the perishables) was make this bread!!  I decided I wanted to make two loaves.  I was going to send some with Shannon and Doug on their trip to Austin this week, keep 1/2 a loaf here for myself, and then take one to work tomorrow.

Mixed up the ingredients, put the loaf in the oven and started on my second loaf.  As I was making the second loaf I realized I didn't put the baking powder in the first loaf.....oh, well.  It's just a tiny bit any ways, can't do that much.......

Such a small amount of white, sure makes a HUGE difference in a loaf of bread!!!  It didn't rise much.....at all, really.

So I started in on my THIRD loaf of bread.  I'm almost out of flour.  Should have gotten a larger bag!!!

Anyways, the last two loaves turned out great.  I've already had 2 slices!!!

Heres the recipie:

Beer Bread

3 C  Flour
1/4 C  Brown Sugar
4 3/4 tsp Baking Powder
2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Onion Powder
3/4 tsp Italian Seasoning
1 (12 oz.) Beer - she suggested Bud Select, but we only had Coors Light on hand (someone left them here when we had a party a few weeks ago).
1/4 C  Butter (melted)

1.  Preheat oven to 375.  Lightly grease bread pan
2.  Mix all dry ingredients.
3.  Stir in beer just until moistened.
4.  Pour into bread pan and top with melted butter.
5.  Bake 45-55 minuted or until toothpick comes out clean.

EAT IT!!!!
